Bad alternator solved my years of issues

For about 3 years my 02 z28 kept throwing codes..o2..a i.r..shift stuck etc.. replaced o2s..a.i.r valves..etc etc Then one night the car shut down and alternator caught on fire...eeeek towed car home and ordered a truck 140 amp one due to i have a amp in car..before that stoplight cars lights would dim when stereo was turned up. After alt...my voltage doesnt drop below 14 on the dash..no more dimming and zero codes. never did it occur to me a alternator was the cause of all my codes :/

^ OP..Thats great news for ya! Other members have stated that fact about these cars needing full power when it comes to issues they may have, looks like they were right! Good job LS.1`ers....

Our cars do not like charging system and battery issues. They tend to do some really weird things until the problem is fixed.

I went the other route with my amp. I got a capacitor. Works great. No dimming issues, and the amp hits harder. Also, having a lifetime warranty on my alt is peace of mind, too.

I have a capacitor also..but the 140 amp alt is excellent..can have lights on..ac..stereo at max level and at idle there is zero light dimming or voltage drop..since amps always stay around 14... the sub amp does much better from the extra power. System hits harder than ever

Low voltage does a lot of screwy things to vehicles... just like Jeff said. But I'm glad you got it fixed! Too bad it had to start a fire before you found the problem though lol.
