I don't think you can get any better oil than AMSOIL.

    Sadly now demodded :(

Amsoil is the original synthetic oil. I've been using it for years. It's expensive but it lives up to it's claims. For instance, I beat the crap out of my car (daily driver and track use) and although I live in Arizona it's never complained. Although I could go longer I usually change oil every 9-10K miles with a filter change every 2500-3000 miles.

Amsoil is a synthetic oil. Changing the filter more often is cheap insurance. I cut open the filter when I change it and have noticed no difference between the 1st one and the last one. Besides the dipstick this is how I check for potential engine damage without tearing anything apart. Theoretically, the oil is good for more than the 9-10K miles I use it for. Use these links:

BTW: One of my friends has a 99 SS Camaro that he purchased new. He used Amsoil from day 1 til the engine blew (lots 'o nitrous) at 140,xxx miles. Now it has a forged bottom end. Soon it'll have a turbo. Still uses Amsoil.

ok, so changing the filter that often is just a precaution. because i always change the filter with the oil, and that's about every 15000 km (9000 miles). usually the oil is still good then - i use synthetic as well, amsoil is not available here, but we have similar products. (the land of audi and bmw is also the land of hi quality lube, otherwise those highbreed high rev bitches fall apart instantly)
