    I have a 4.11 gear and I like it a lot.
    I have had 4.10's , 3.73's and now 3.42's.

    I can tell you I didn't like shifting into 5th around 135ish...

3.73's for me was perfect, the 3.42's just feel too boring.

^^no you shouldn't have to hit 5th in the 1/4 unless your trapping like 140mph+

That thing will be sucking fuel like a ford excursion running all of 1850 rpm at 70

4.10s, with a 6 speed, in 6th at 70 MPH, is no problemo. RPM like 1900 @ that speed.

Shifting into 5th @ 130 or so is normal with stock 3.42s. Is that what you mean? With 4.10s you'd need 5th at what, 115-120?

With otherwise stock power, you don't run out of gear at the 1/4 with 4.10s.

But for sure you need to hit 4th gear! Unless someone swapped in 2.73s, then maybe you don't need 4th.

My guess is you are shifting into 5th at 135MPH at the track???

And to the person who commented about RPM's being SKY HIGH with 4.10's...that's a pretty ludicrous statement. My RPM's are at around 1900 at 70MPH, which isn't high at all.

You have to use 4th gear with a 3.42 gear....so there's no change as far as shifting with a 4.10/4.11 gear because you still finish in 4th...unless you have a lot of power and are trapping at pretty high speeds.

If you want a track car, the T56 is NOT the answer for you anyway.

Makes me chuckle, I'd love to get some of these guys in a couple of my cars with 4.88's and no overdrive,

You'll use 4th with your stock 3.42's and stock height tire, as was mentioned, you'll be shifting into 4th at about the 1,000 ft. mark with a stocker shifting around 6,000 rpms. The 4.10's will have you shifting 4th sooner, and you'll be able to run out the back door at a more (suitable for the engine) rpm range. You should see better trap speeds and a lower ET just from the gear change. For optimum ET, the idea is to cross the finish line in your 1:1 gear at a slightly higher rpm than where you are shifting.

Exacttly as 35th and Jones have said.

I've seen it with my own eyes. One guy with a H/C/I car, and 4.10s was trapping 137mph, and crossing the 1320 mark right around 6400RPM.

    Just sayin'

Just for the record, when I got my mods in signature, I cut my 1/4 time from a 13.79 at 104 (stock 3.42, street tires, lid, and cat-back) to 13.19 at 108MPH (same 60' time as the 13.79 time)...and my car still has a lot more left in her based on that 108MPH ET.

I shift at around 6300RPM and use "most" of 4th with the 4.11 gear. I'm still not finishing the line in an "optimal" RPM though because of my tires being the height they are (nitto 555R DR 275/40R17).

My car is probably capable of mid 12's if I could hook good and make better use of 4th gear. I am probably losing some during my shifts too.

The idea behind drag racing is optimizing your power band. You don't want to be shifting into 4th 1000' before the finish line like mentioned. Your peak power is right around 5500 RPM when you have basic bolt-on's. You want to be shifting above that so when the RPM drops from the shift you are still sitting at your peak power band.

compltely incorrect statement. 1900rpm at 70mph is not sky high
