if your SS is truly an SS (98-02) it will have a functional hood scoop, and a ram air intake. i am pretty sure all SS models from 98-02 came with ram air.

maybe it was a clone with a SS hood, even so it still should've been functional. Did you stick your fingers in it? As far back as they could go?

Here's are a coupel of pics, not the best. Air goes through vent on top of hood, flows 360 degrees and exits out of 4 slots at the front of the air filter. That's what makes it functional.

its not a true ram air, its more of a fresh(cold) air induction.

There is no such thing as a non-functional dealer optioned SS hood. All real slp SS's have a functional hood. Lets see some pics of the hood and the stickers on the inside of the door.

its not very effective if you follow the path of the air. the real direct route is the free fresh air intake with the hole in the bottom of the filter box (or slp flow pac or the such). since camaros are bottom feeders anyway. they get their radiator air from the bottom which is directed through the radiator (and the air box when you cut out the bottom of the box) with the big black faring that hangs down underneath you camaro. the opening in the bumper cover means nothing.

I don't think she knew at the time (or maybe even now) that it supposed to be. Not like it mattered she bought it in '03 I think. They were hard enough to find still on the dealership and to find a fully loaded black SS was damn near impossible around here.

After I thought about it, she did take out a street sign one day, but I'm almost positive only the bumper cover was damaged since it laid over, not to mention my step dad owns a body shop, so I'm sure he would have had it replaced with OEM parts.

So what you're saying is, maybe the real SS hood was replaced with an imitation? That would explain the discrepincy in hoods. All SSs came with the "ram air" hood. ALL OF THEM.

    I said MAYBE.

BUT my step dad used GM parts and not imitation shit. Not to mention, I don't see how it could have damaged the hood if it laid over and she drove over it. The bumper wasn't damaged much at all so I don't think the hood was...
