You can't have the exhaust dumped at the axle like Jim has either. The smog station throws a big red flag because they can't easily attach the sniffer to the pipe, so it gets failed and sent back out the door.

Not to mention he wasn't running cats on the car either

    Sadly now demodded :(

Like Larry said, no cats, no AIR, headers and duals dumped at the axle and it was tuned to take advantage of it...

Also, the torque arm was in the way of the stock exhaust system (it was a short body mount type - I miss the sound of the exhaust) and the 3400 stall wasn't very practical for a DD. Had to go with an SLP lid because of the fresh air pickup. Car was reflashed back to a stock tune.

Good thing I held off on the MS3 cam.

Tranny was built back at 40,xxx (car has 53,xxx now) and it still shifts like a beast.

Sean said I should've just left it registered in AZ (still have the house in Tempe). Maybe he was right as, while it's still fun to drive it's about .7 (more?) slower then it was. Would've had to bring it back for smog every 2 years though...

Yeah i hear ya.So you think a mild cam would increase emissions? I wonder if there is a cam thats Ca smog legal?...Not that im any where near cam upgrade yet Huh im still stressin every smog year about my Lts ..and yeah i also have the ability to flash back to my stock tune for emissions thats why ive talked to members here about the Frost tune and how it may not work for my situation although its funny if im correct the Performance tune ( DS)i now have doesnt kick in til WOT anyway so i dont really even think thats an issue. And as far as you leaving your car registered in AZ i just saw a thing on the news on how the CHP is cracking down on out of state plates/cars trying to catch registaration cheats(as they put it) People who lived in other states and who live and/or work here now but fail to re-register their cars in Ca. to avoid the high costs...I think its like 10 days from the time you leave your state! Huh yeah the CHP has a link on their website to get people to snitch on them. You never know...............

Yeah they have similar laws all around the country. Even here within AZ there is a law like that for Maricopa and Pima counties, as they are the only counties in this state that have emissions testing. The law here is for people (like us ) that actually live outside Maricopa county but commute down there to work everyday. If you work down there they still want the car registered and smogged down there, even though I live in Yavapai county.

I say bullshit and I just don't do it. I know a couple dozen people that work down there and live up here and don't worry about it. And I'm sure there are literally hundred's if not thousands of people that commute to Phoenix everyday for work, because there isn't any work up here in Prescott, and I'm sure other surrounding counties are also the same way. I just don't worry about it. I believe the cops have their hands full with other more important things than to bother a hard working contributor to society.

I've heard that a TR228 cam will pass the sniffer if tuned right and you can do shorties if they have an EO from the state. Can't move the cats though. Why I haven't a clue but that's the rules. Besides that, 2002 exhaust manifolds are just as good as shorties. You just lose some weight over the nose.

Gear changes are legal as are torque converters. Right there you can pick up .5 in the quarter. MPG's will suffer though. In your case with an M6 I'd go with 4.10's. Rearends are the weakest link with these cars though.

And I changed to Cali registration because I didn't want the hassle. Yeah, it's 10 days in Cali and AZ too. I got caught in AZ after I moved there back in 03/04 (I'm a native Angeleno). Ticket was $581!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? Just for not registering the car within 10 days! I don't even want to think what it's going for now.

WOW none of that going on here yet!! I agree thats BULL i dont like any smog laws of any kind but thats another story-But so far here its based on where you garage the car not where your going to work...There are some counties in rural eastern and far northern in Ca. that dont have smog but its a very small section of the state.I know that in states that have alot of open areas like CO. AZ etc the air isnt as polluted cause the places arent densly populated etc.But from what i read legislatures are trying to inact Ca. smog type rules in all 50 states..Maybe not now,not tomorrow but environmentalists are pushing for it!

LOL funny thing is that i HAD a pair of Edelbrock shorties with Ca. EO# and everything..at the time(07) no one wanted to touch the car to do the job of header installation? I finally found a guy at a Corvette specialist/mod shop and he said yeah no problem...while talking to him we started talking Horsepower etc etc Since he races Vettes and builds High HP engines i though wow the HP gains are way better /Rturn my order to Summit and buy a set of KooKs Lt`s,,,so thats what i did..I remember talking to him before the purchase on the prospect of me not being able to smog it and he was like oh youll get someone to pass ya!! LOL.....Its been hell every other year since so far ive been lucky but eventually the game will catch up to me! Unfortunately i told him just to keep the old parts( OE manifolds & Cats) like a big dummy! Now i wish i had them...I did by a set of Ca.Legal cats, havent installed them yet I will when i am forced to i guess..& reason you cant move the cats is that the efficiencey of them change and they dont burn/work as clean as when in original spot.

Yeah, I hope to be dead and gone before that crap happens

Cali is pretty much state wide on smog (I have family in Sac) so they don't have any need to ding people for living in a smog free county.

AZ on the other hand only has 2 counties that smog test. Maricopa and Pima (basically Phoenix and Tuscon) and that's where all the business is. Alot of people live outside these counties and travel in for work. I guess AZ saw alot of money being lost from vehicles not needing smog yet driving in these two counties so they implemented this law. However to enforce it would be a real pain in the ass checking every single AZ tag you see for specific counties,,,,and then not knowing whether that person is there for pleasure or for work is another unknown. Because most Arizona natives run all over the state for various pleasures, (ie: mountains, cooler temps, Grand Canyon, Sedona, Prescott, Tombstone, Aerospace museum, Phoenix Zoo, etc..) You get the idea
Not to mention all the sun bunnies that come into this state during the winter months for warmer temps. I see tags from all over the place from October through April, tags from Montana, Indiana, Dakota's, Illinois, and all those other cold states. Then there are the Prescott people where I am that can't even deal with the mild winter temps we have (50's during the day is a piece of cake ) So in the winter they have other houses they stay in down in Phoenix, Tuscon, and even Yuma, then come back up to Prescott in April when the weather in the valley starts getting warm.

So how can a police officer differentiate all that and enforce that law?? I just don't see it happening all that often myself,,,,so I just take my chances, that smog testing can kiss my rump.
