2000 z28 change oil light keeps coming back for 5 min at eve
The light came on and I changed the oil and filter, but now it comes on for about 1-2 min at every startup even when the engine is warm. I didnt see any codes for it on my obdII.
Anybody have any suggestions? Is my oil pump failing or something? Pressure has been around under 40, but cold is about 55-60, seems a little high maybe?

Did you reset the light after changing the oil?

Do we even have an "oil light"? My understanding was that we have a "low oil" light. I would think that possibly, your sensor is detecting an oil deficiency, and as the oil warms up, it expands, therefore reaching what the sensor considers an acceptable level. What is your dipstick reading? FWIW certain members on this forum run more than the 5.5 quarts as a normal routine.
I run 6 quarts, but that is at the recommendation of the guy who built my engine (heads/cam).Lid, Throttle Body, LS6 Intake, Heads, Cam, Magnaflow, LS7 Clutch, SFCs, STB, Panhard Bar, Strano Springs, Hollow Sway Bars, Poly/Roto LCAs, Konis, MGW Shifter

Interesting. I checked on my gauge cluster and I only have a "low oil" light. Mine is a 98... not sure if that matters. Or, if I do have a "change oil" light, the bulb is blown!

They instructions are in the owners manual if you have it. Been a good while since I had to reset mine. Been lucky if I get to drive the car at least once a week lately. But you turn the key on without starting the car and then hold down the trip reset button for like 10 or 15 seconds and it should reset if I remember correctly.

Is that light based on mileage or is it actually linked to some kind of sensor?

98's only let you know if oil is low, we do not have that mileage thing. 98's also do not have the low fuel idiot light either.

I was beginning to think that. Though, when my car was losing oil mysteriously a couple years ago, the low oil light never came on until most of the oil had magically vanished.

The crappy pcv design is partly to blame. I can't endorse the LS6 VCT mod enough and combine it with a catch can my oil consumption cut way down on the LS1 and it's almost minimal on the 403. Only time I increase oil consumption is when I do multiple track nights.

I'll have to look into this some more. I just dread ripping my engine apart and then having to spend all day AFTER putting it back together trying to figure out what I didn't plug back in or torque down tight enough, etc...

It's not to difficult to do. Only scary part is with a 98 block you'll need to grind in a certain spot for clearance for the LS6 VCT. As long as you cover the valley and heads very well and treat it like surgery in that you isolate the specific area to grind and cover the rest. I also used a shop vac, had my son hold it where I was grinding to suck up the shaving as they came off to leave little debris.
There is a how to thread in the Gen Help section under the Tech stickies.

Well, that won't be a problem in my case: my car has an LS1 out of a 2001 Trans-Am.
