    Zach on drums....

Keep in mind he's only played them a handful of times so far. He's not the next Neal Peart or anything but he's picking them up fairly quickly I believe for having never played before.

    Sadly now demodded :(

Nice! Pair him up with a metronome and, if he's willing, pay for some lessons. Drum sticks are meant to be held a certain way and having somebody who knows about the fulcrum point, stick balance and the difference between traditional grip and match grip goes a long way. For instance, drum rolls are controlled with rebound off of the head and the middle, ring and small fingers (for match grip the index finger forms the fulcrum and the thumb holds the stick in the fulcrum - traditional grip is different for the left hand - there are other grips employed but those are the 2 main types) control the speed while the wrist should be used for accents. Knowing about things like that will also make it easier and more fun to play.

FWIW, I've been playing drums since I was 10 back in 1965. 1st thing my 1st teacher did was show me how to properly hold the sticks, showed me how a single stroke roll was done then said, "Now go practice that a million times..."

Not bad, i've played a handful of times and it does take some practice but it definitely seems like he's picking it up quickly.
