Wireless networking gurus enter
I just got a wireless video camera but I'm having trouble getting it to work right with my setup unless its plugged in via cable.
Heres my setup:
Cable in to modem
Modem to Linksys 4 port wired router, DCHP disabled 192.168.1.1
1 My computer manual IP to router. 192.168.1.101
2 other computer 192.168.1.102
3 wireless camera 192.168.1.103
4 slingbox 192.168.1.104
Now my motherboard came with a built in asus wireless so I have it set up on a open wep secure net on channel 6 with my ssid i picked. I have it set to access point mode with the software it came with, and it seems to automatically assign IP's to wireless devices. For example my wifi cellphone...the address is usually 192.168.0.238. The wierd thing is that number never changes, so im not sure if its using dchp or not!
Now, heres where it gets confusing... and i havent even gotten to the camera yet... my computer sets up a wireless connection to itself...? but doesnt get automatically assigned an ip like my phone does... but if i manually tell it an ip, it connects and i can even ping my cellphone from my computer so there is a valid connection to the network. buuuut, i cant browse it in any manner in windows! but atleast i know the net is up and running and things can communicate.
now, when i set the wireless camera up, it doest list me its ip address (dont even see an option for it) and my asus software doesnt list it as a connected associate... so once its unplugged from my router, its unusable because it doesnt seem to appear to be on the wireless network...and/or i cant see it because i dont know its ip.
any suggestions?

Set the linksys to hand out IP. Not your MB.
Is that router a wireless AP?

No the router is a 4 port wired only... its my computer which has the wireless built in that has ics built in. i dont want the linksys to hand out ips, i must have them set and be the same 24/7.

I am confused on what you trying to do.
I normally would set the router to hand out IP's
If you want to assign static, just use IP's outside the DHCP scope but within the same network.
