I had an LPE aluminum drive shaft in my 1994 back when it was a manual trans. When i installed my automatic I had to shorten it by about 2 inches. It did technically "fit" but it did not fit properly and would have bound up under hard acceleration had I not shortened it.

I know I sold my stock M6 driveshaft to a guy with an A4. He never complained about one bit.

I only replaced the u-joints and had it rebalanced when I did mine (1999 I believe).

Also I found a new Pred avatar and thought of you, assuming you are ready for a change.....
