A lot is going to depend on when you grew up. The list will show many a people's age. In no particular order:
    1. Eddie Van Halen
    2. George Lynch
    3. Joe Satriani
    4. Slash
    5. Glenn Tipton
    6. Zakk Wylde
    7. Randy Rhoads
    8. Jake E. Lee
    9. Reb Beach
    10 Jimmy Page

Just to name a few, but hitting on the 10 in the topic. You could add Eric Clapton in there too. All depends on one's preference to music.

I have so much of his stuff sitting on my ipod its scary...Think i've gotten just about every song he's ever made including stuff that wasnt even released on CD's lol I still think one of my all time favorites of his is the remake of the Top Gun Theme song he did. Its pretty bad@ss.

he was much better at recording technique than he was a technically gifted player.

Don't get me wrong as at the time (late 60's) he was doing things others weren't even thinking about.

And, I'm surprised that no one has mentioned any jazz or fusion guitarists.

Or do you all only listen to rock? Does anybody remember "The Funk Brothers"?

And Murder, if YOU don't know who The Funk Brothers were then I just don't know what to say...

I assume you made this list of all guitarist AFTER Jimi Hendrix. I would also put Les Paul in the top ten. You have to remember it's not just how you play but what style you play. Most classical guitarist will outplay most of these so-called "Rock God's" but we never hear about them. Jimi and Les are at the top because they gave birth to the instrument and style we now enjoy. If you don't believe me just ask anyone in your top ten list. I'm sure they will agree.
My ride is a 2002 Camaro SS SLP #3296 with 30k, LTH, 3" Y, CME, Frost tune, K&N, ported TB, Blackwing lid, Bellows, MSD, Denso Iridium, and 85mm MAF, Bilsteins, Eibach springs, SLP strut brace, Adj. Panhard, TA Girdle, UMI, Pro 5.0, Nitto NT555

There is no right or wrong answer to the question. Not taking away from Hendrix or Les Paul as they were the catalyst of guitarists to come. As I stated in my post, a lot will depend on when one grew up. This question has come up several times over the years and there is no definitive answer due to varying opinions. It is comparable to talking theology. A majority on my list have made impacts on the musical world by being the ones people try to emulate. A couple on my list didn't have a major input to what we listen to today; but for me, I enjoy listening to their style thus why I named them.

No one has yet mentioned Chet Atkins, likely due to the style he played.

But when you hear him play 2 clearly recognizable songs at the same time, there's no denying he had immense talent.

Lots of the guitarists you hear now have a lot of distortion and sound effects so you can't really determine where their talent ends and the electronic assistance begins.

Yngwie Malmsteen also has a ton of skill, but you're not likely to hear him on the local radio.
