Where do you get your motivation
When times are tough, and you feel like you're at the max, what motivates you to keep your head up and press on?
I was kinda in one of those moods last night, and just though of those who have given so much more, so I made one of those motivational poster things;

I think about the people who have it worse then me. My parents for instance, both lost their jobs and are scrounging to make their home payments while us kids do what we can to help but maintain our own lives.

My wife, and Our daughter, and pride. Doing what i have to do to get things done and knowing it can always be worse...
I look back on past deployments and living in the worst conditions imaginable and appriciating simple things like running water, Dry clothes, Not sleeping in the elements, a toliet lol. and going outside and not worrying about finding an IED or Taking a round...
Keep on pushing and trucking, nothing lasts forever, bad times come and go, just appreicate the simple small things...

The fact that no matter how bad things may seem, there are always people who have far worse than I.
Just taking a step back and looking around at my life. What I've learned, what I have and those I love.
Life's pretty good when you look at it at the right angle, no matter how bad it may feel

IMO - nothing can motivate you, all the motivation you need exists inside you already. You are either motivated to do something or you're motivated Not to do it, if you get my drift. Motivation is not always positive. Some events will cause people to come out of their comfort zone when reacting to inspiration or desperation. Our reactions are based from our values, personalityand up brining. For example -If you we're close with your parents, you may react similarly to events in they same way your mother/father does. Girlfriends are very skilled a picking this out. "You are just like your father" they might say. For me, I didn't want to go to school but I did it because I wanted the degree. So in fact I DID want to go the school. The degree wasn't the motivation it was reward for time spent. The motivation came from within.
PS- Someone throw me a life vest, I think I'm getting too deep... cough* Huh Boobies, beer and hotrods!...there fixed it

My parents. My mother has a bad heart and limited mobility so she can't work. I like lookin after her. My father is a workhorse as am I. I look at our house and my GTO and I keep on going. I also play my late great-grandfather's speech in my head over and over. "Don't let noone make a fool outta you! You're a McDowell, and we McDowells are hard workers. We're never lazy. Make your ancestors proud!! And above all else...stay in school and make something of yourself!!"

2002 Z28 A4 NBM- Sadly now demodded :(
I watch Jerry Springer and it makes my life seem normal.
Actually my life is normal but watching that show puts things in perspective regarding how much worse things could be.

I personally always think of "those who have come before, and those who will come" in terms of getting an engineering degree, and becoming an Air Force Aviator, aka my two biggest priorities right now.
I think of those who have given their lives and / or given up their freedoms to allow me to pursue my desires and dreams. In turn, my life goal is to give back to the legacy which has provided me with these great opportunities.
