Well THAT didn't take long.
In light of the shooting incident yesterday, all the scared/cautious people on the campus have already starting getting suspicious. We were on lockdown for about 30 minutes because someone was seen "carrying a suspicious object." I actually didn't know about it until they issued the all-clear signal. They just sent out a campus wide e-mail. Apparently someone though a guy was walking around the gym with a rifle. He came forward after the description was sent out. Turns out.. he had an umbrella. Cause it has been raining all day. Yeah, I know, better safe than sorry.. but... here we go.

Yeah, my math teacher knew about it and didn't want to tell us so we wouldn't "panic", but someone came in and told us not to leave the buildings till they had issued an all clear signal. They also had a lot of offices locked down for part of the day. Just glad someone didn't try and copy what happened.

yeah we got nothing accomplished for the rest of that class during the lockdown b/c everytime a door shut or something everyone jumped. That and everyone was on their phones after finding out about it.

Yeah, no kidding. Almost every person I saw was on the phone or texting on the phone.

Yeah.. half my classes didn't even know there was a lockdown. Most of those kids didn't check their e-mail.

I don't know about you other univeristy students, but I check my student email maybe once a week, if that. The warning email sent out after the first shooting (which was at 7:15am) probably got read by hardly any students.

No, most don't. They really need a better system. They have phones in every classroom for emergencies here. (OU). This may not be possible, but they should think about making an announcement over those somehow. No one checks their e-mail often enough to rely on it for safety.

Campuses need to have an emergency PA system that is all over campus, inside and outside, etc, just like at public ele, middle and high schools. That would have been effective.

Thanks.
I really wish there was an easier way. I did have one complaint about how this campus handled our "scare." We got an e-mail when the lockdown went into effect.. and then once it was over, we got an announcement over this large speaker system in the dorms that they use for severe weather warning and stuff saying that it was over. Why didn't I get warned by one? That's obviously an option.

Yeah, it was definetly an option. OU's email system is a joke, so that should be a last resort for this kind of a problem.
