Web Page - Need some advise

Well guys I've come across an opportunity to make some extra cash on the side with a small business. I've been beating the idea for a while because working for Uncle Sam takes so much of my time but I decided to go with it. Now sorry for sounding like a dumbass but I'm computer illiterate as hell, what company would be the best to get a domain and web site designed through? What's the typical price range? And does the hosting company provide the software to build a site? Someone point me in the right direction, I'd greatly appreciate the help! Thanks,

I could be dead wrong but i think its around $150 to get your site name and its good for 10 yrs..

For my site, I go through 1&1.com, they have good deals

To register a Site name can cost as litle as $6.00 a year.

Maybe try a Google search of Web Hosts.

Or just try http://faq.1and1.com/

How complicated is your page going to be? Do you just want a simple page that describes your business, or are you planning on processing credit cards and other electronic payments through the site itself?

No just a simple site, I'd like to have a tech section and at least a online catalog of the parts I carry with prices. Nothing too high tech though, I'm not a big computer fan. I'd rather do business with people on a more personal level.

I dont know if you watch Conan O Brien.. but think it was last week or the week before on the show he mentioned www.horneemanatee.com on the air and even though it didnt exist there was some legal issue stating "if you advertise a non existent web page you need to purchase it" So he did and he said that it cost him 150.00 for ten yrs so thats where i got the info from oh and btw its a real web site now

If you don't need to accept electronic payment or other confidential information, you may be able to build and host a simple page on your ISP's space. You can purchase a domain name cheaply at godaddy or one of the other's listed in this thread, then automatically redirect visitors to your hosted page.

Wow, thanks! I bought a domain from yahoo so can I use it to just make a simple web page? I'll read over that and see if I can make sense of it, thanks for the help.
