Vehicle security system (circa 1926)
I went to a car show in Addison, New York earlier today. This had me puzzled on a 1926 Model T:
Turns out the steering flips up for "larger drivers" to get into the vehicle. The center assembly also has a pin that disengages it from the column to prevent theft. Pull the pin, turn and remove the key, and the steering wheel will spin free.
Stuff like this always amazes me -- especially when there is a good story behind it. The owner was kind enough to demonstrate the wheel. Seems like cool cars almost always equates to cool people, at least in my experience.

Phantom Black Metallic- 2004 GTO M6
It's amazing how we just find out about technology in the past, but, it never really went away...it just evolved over the years.

I love stuff like that. Classic cars are the best and I agree, the people who own them are generally cool as well, and more than willing to answer questions and show you around their prized possessions
