Practice when no one is watching.

I remember when I got my first manual car - an 86 mustang gt. I turned it sideways in the middle of town just after I got it. First thing I did was go oput to the country and find a back road where nobody was, and practiced. You've driven a manual before so it's not going to be like learning all over again - but it will be a little different than a honda only because you've got more power. You'll do fine.

If your used to driving manual trans 4 cylinders the LS1's torque will come as a pleasent surprise. As in you don't have to rev it way up to get it going. Most V8's have plenty of off idle torque.

Well for one you can slip the clutch quite a bit on this car making for a makeshift creeper gear that will eventually kill the plates. Skip Shift WILL be a PITA at times (kicks in at 25% throttle or less and overriding it is like tap dancing on the floorboards). To bypass the manual says shift to 4th, then shift back..

Spend 20 bucks at SLP.com and get the eliminator.

Other than that, it's like driving a honda; you just don't have to rev the piss out of it to get off the line. I regularly shift at 2K in traffic and it's butter smooth. Even with my suck-arse shifting I still got 13.5mpg in the city with it and I'm a noob as well.

Do the drill mod so your hydraulic clutch will feel more consistent and predictable.

You may not need it unless you do high speed shifting.

I drive the 98 (it's an M6) like any other manual tranny car: let out the clutch while applying sufficient throttle to keep it moving. In normal traffic I generally shift around 2K rpm (depends on traffic and my mood).

I also don't use all the gears all the time. Sometimes (when I'm feeling lazy and traffic conditions permit) I go 1st to 3rd to 5th but it depends.

FWIW, my 1st car was a 54 Chevy station wagon with a "3-on-the-tree" way back in 1970 and power nothing (manual steering and drum brakes).

Fun Car though: I put a matress in the back. My GF at the time (we were both 16) made curtains so folks couldn't see what we were doing at the drive in...

    Get the picture???

Yeah they closed down the last good one in Atlanta years back. I used to love it. There was a scary one still open that I would never go to...
