Thinking about buying a bike... need opinions

Well inlight of gas being the way it is im thinking about maybe buying a bike. Im looking at the Ninja ZX10 and the GSX-R1000... I dont know jack shit about bikes other than I want something with 1000ccs... im not buying it souly for performance... i dont plan to ever use it to its full potential. Just cruise at moderate speeds. Im going with the 1000 because im a bigger guy (not fat by any means lol, just not skinny and lanky like half the little high school pricks i see riding these things) and they just seem to be a better fit. Let me know what you guys think, personal opinions and facts on both... thanks

    oh god. here we go.

My advice, dont make a thread on this. You are already off to a horrible start with the 1,000 cc's as a first bike lol dude go to a sportbike forum on this. I'm jus warning u lol

I wasnt trying to be a douche bag, im really jus trying to save you the inevitable grief that will surely ensue.

But me and 86iroc seem to both agree on that hayabusa turbos are excellent starter bikes

my advice is if you have never ridden before you should look at a smaller bike. a 600cc or a 750cc bike but not a 1000cc. the zx10 and current gen gsxr 1k make around 180hp which provides for a high power to weight ratio no matter the size of the rider.

you will drop your bike at least one time when you are starting out so i would advice not getting a brand new bike.

you should also read "a twist of the wrist" and "a twist of the wrist II" both by keith code and you should try to find and take the MSF Course locally.

my advice would be for a SV650S, GSXR600 or GSXR750.

the above post i made while you were listing off your previous experience.

either bike is a good bike...both very powerful. my preference lies with suzuki but the kawasaki is a very close second. i prefer naked bikes myself such as the suzuki sv series and the kawasaki z1000.

Hell yes. Throw a supercharger as well on that sumbitch too, for added safety.

Oh, here's more from sportbike 101:

    Proper attire whilst riding -

    - T-shirt
    - Shorts
    - flip-flops
    - Oakleys (eye protection is important, but style is even more important. With these you get both)
    - Optional: Backwards baseball cap

    Hope this helps.

Edit: forgot, you'll need eight arms to achieve this.

First off if you don't know what the heck you are doing on a motorcycle then stay away from them. Anyways they are a freakin blast to ride and a 600 gixxer will get you hurt or dead just as quick as the 1000 cc. Gixxer will and if you are just wantin one for gas milage then the 600's will do great or even a MOPED!!! I own a 07 hayabusa so I know it doesn't matter what we all say to you it won't change your mind so just be safe and ride the Suzuki GIXXER!!!!!!

You forgot one VERY important item!! The hot chick riding on the back that is almost falling off as you show off with it in traffic!

I have had a CBR 600, Ninja ZX-6R, YZF-600, and an R1. My current GSXR is by far the best of all. My neighbor just got a ZX-10R. It is a nice looking bike and I have ridden it. Good bike as well.

Take some of the advice above. Be safe.

i grew up on motorcycles, had too many dirt and street bikes too list
and the thing i always tell people is for one never go to small, the biggest mistake people make is going with the smallest cc and in a year they always want to sell for something bigger
most people dont understand that idiots are idiots and alot of times people wreck because they are idiots, smart people can start on a bigger bike and be fine

since you have experience riding i would say just find a bike that feels comfortable to you and one that you like, and of course like half of the idiots that wreck dont do,be careful until you get a good feel for the power and then always be careful

I would have to agree to start off with something around 600cc, because even though you are a bigger guy these bikes are still strong enough to carry you. I have a 07 650r and it is my first bike I have ever owned and it is alittle more forgiving of a bike than the 1000's you are looking at.

if there is nothing to set the two in the pole apart then just pick the most comfortable one for you,but i would definitely take a look at a few more if you havent already

Well all that said i may look into getting something a little smaller, i dont really want the thing for the power, i was just told the smaller bikes wouldnt be as comfortable so i never even bothered to look... thanks guys... good info, oh and ill be sure to wear shorts flipflops a t-shirt and a backwards baseball cap when i ride.... sounds like a blast lol.

the guy has some riding experience, you can hurt yourself just as easy on a 600cc bike as you can on a bigger one the main thing is being smart while riding and knowing your limits

i do recommend some safety classes if you dont have alot of experience
they have classes here where they put you on a small dirt bike and teach you how to do all kinds of handling tricks
my experience on my dirt bikes has saved my life and bike more than once

ever seen somebody high side a 1600 cc cruiser slide under a rear bumper and whip the ass end around just in time to clear the whole truck
neither have i but i had to do it when a truck cut in between me and my brother who was about two bike in front of me

all of that was experience and is exactly why my 4 yr old son is getting his first dirt bike this year
