shotgun question
i want to buy a mossberg 835 ultra mag but im wondering whats the difference between the different models, some say turkey, waterfowl or deer... but they are all the same guage and are available in same barrel length... is it just the paint scheme or would u really not use a turkey model on a deer (first shotgun if you couldnt tell)

but wouldn't that come from the shell itself and muzzle length?

the differnces is barrel leanght, type of sights, and choke size and paint scheme.
turkey=short barrel, full choke, bead sights.
deer= short barrel, rifle sights, no chokes included
etc etc
you can get mossbergs with 2 barrels, one for deer and one for upland game like turkey w/f, rabbits and those pesky squrillills you just gotta use diff chokes for diff applications.

wouldnt u want a full choke and a long barrel for deer though? ie longer barrel = more velocity and choke is smaller more accurate shot?

Not exactly on a shotgun. Longer barrel helps with a tighter pattern further down range, also assisted by the choke. That's why 28" and 30" barrels are excelent duck/goose guns.
Also, camo for turkey, because they have great vision. Deer, not so much sight as smell, but a turkey can smell or see you.

Green- 94 Camaro 3.4
Yea, I would say the biggest differnce would be the choke. I don't know about those specific models, but honestly the only difference could be the chokes.

Also a deer shotgun probably has a rifled barrel to cause the slug to rotate which will increase range and accuracy. If you are buying to deer hunt with you would not be able to shhot anything but slugs, and if you bought a waterfowl shotgun you couldnt deer hunt with it.

Get a 2 barrel combo (best of both worlds)Also after 24" you do not gain hardly any velocity at all .But a longer barrel will help on sight plane.

thanks for the info...
about barrel length now affecting velocity much after 24", how much does it still affect pellet spread? like does a 28" open shoot like a 20" with a choke installed?

No. The 28" barrel gives the pattern more distance than the 20".
What exactly are you using this for?

No
cylinder choke is .000 restriction. (no choke)
A skeet choke is .005 restriction.
Improved cylinder is.010 restriction.
Modified is .015 restriction.
And a full is .020 restriction. On most USA standards.
Cylinder or skeet would be for short shots ? 25 yards and in.
A full choke would be for longer shots 45 yards or so.
A Improved cylinder is a good all around choke to use.
Most all new shot guns come with removable chokes so you can go from one to the other.
There is also deer chokes that have rifling Or A full rifling barrel.(no choke)
After 24" all the gas from the shot shell is burnt up . A longer barrel is for sight plane . Trap shooters and duck hunters like longer barrels for sight plane this makes it easier to pick up the target. Short barrels are for skeet shooters or bird hunting in thick woods (fast quick pick up of targets)
But none of this is in stone . Shotguns come in all shapes and sizes from combat to sport shooting to hunting.
Here is a good site.
