NHRA driver Scott Kalitta killed in crash in NJ

ENGLISHTOWN, N.J. (AP) — Scott Kalitta died Saturday when his Funny Car crashed and burst into flames during qualifying for the Lucas Oil NHRA SuperNationals at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park.

State police confirmed that the 46-year-old Kalitta, a two-time Top Fuel champion who had 18 career victories, was killed in the accident.

Witnesses told The Star-Ledger of Newark that Kalitta's Toyota Solara was traveling at an estimated speed of 300 mph when the crash occurred.

Yeah the boss is there told me the car went up after the traps and the shoot never opened

I'm sure someone has it on a handheld camera and it will be on youtube. As a matter of morals and ethics television channels don't show crashes in wich someone dies with the exclusion of earnhardts crash.

yeah but youtube will take it off... you cant find car crashes on there from previous ones where people die

Man I could not believe how short the sand trap area was and then to also have the concrete wall there. Other racers said they had hoped he was knocked out by the first explosion, but after watching it on tv, it looked like he was try to stop the car...

Terrible thing to happen...

that is just unreal. you see more and more of these car going into flames. the the shoots not opening and car just putting them selves into the wall to slow down. they will come up with something new to prevents this i'm sure. it will just take time.
