Scam advice needed
I am trying to sell my bike on craigs list. I have to sell it to pay for a honeymoon. I still owe on the bike, so the buyer will have to pay my credit union before receiving the title. I need to know any possible scams that may come my way. My credit union is asking for.......damn I just forgot. Maybe a certified check? Crap, I can't believe I just forgot what they asked for. Anyway, advice needed.
Thanks, Jason
I just remembered, a cashier's check.Last edited by shootnhogs; 08-31-2007 at 10:26 AM.

This is fairly standard stuff, for a dealership. For a private citizen it's not that hard, but some hoops will have to be jumped through. Your bank/CU will need to provide a release of lien, application for title etc for a purchaser. Just like if you go to the lot and get one. It's usually easier if the purchaser let's his bank do the steps then to have you do it. If they are paying cash, you are gonna have to make the phone calls and go get the forms. Nothing insurmountable, but can be a pain. Just don't take any private checks. Certified or Cash/CC/Money Order are usually all acceptable. If possible, bring the purchaser to your bank/CU with you when you go and do it all at once.
PS The reason they want a cashier's check is that it's certified funds. Just like cash, so is a Money Order. I can't think of a bank in the world that wont take cash ) Altho Credit Unions can be a bit fussy

your credit union will do most of the work for you. Just make sure the guy buying it comes with cash or a cashiers check.

What makes it fun is when the bank your loan is through is hundreds of miles away!
