Roommate bought new laptop today
So I have been dicking around with his old one. It is a really nice toshiba laptop but for about 6 months now it has been overheating and shutting off on him at random times and he just has done nothing about it. So I took it from him today to mess with while he played with his new one. I downloaded some nice freeware from Sarges site and cleaned it all up software wise and got rid of all the spyware and crap and it was still overheating. Then I figured it must just be dirty (I had no idea when they last time he cleaned it was) so I started to take it apart bu tit was too much of a pain in the ass. I was just going to wait til tomorrow and go buy some canned air but then I walked into the kitchen to get a drink and when I flipped on the light it just jumped out at me beggin to have a purpose again. So I picked up my half full Nitrous bottle and opened it up about an 1/8 of a turn and voila! It blew out all kinds of nasty dust so then I took my shop vac and cleaned it out the rest of the way. Now she is working like a champ and the fans arent running at full fucking blast anymore. Now I just have to ask him if he will sell me this one cheap since my laptop took a shit on me a while back.

had my tower mac cleaned out too-sucker had 4 years of college/apartment dust in about every nook and cranny. It was running UBER HOT and the fans were so loud i thougt they were broken/vibrating.
my buddy made a computer and put an led temperature gage on teh face, the first week of it running, the gauge led burnt out

had to fix my girlfriends toshiba and it had this much dust in it Dust wasn't the problem for her(hinges broke) but when i got it apart it had all kinds of dust, food and cat hair in it.. pics don't really show the dust but you can see some still in the fan.. Also threw in some of my dell pics.
If i were you i wouldn't tell your roomate that you fixed it by cleaning it out. Just play dumb and get a better deal on it, then act like your cleaning it out to see if it helps with overheating. You should atleast unscrew the keyboard and get the dust out that way, should only be a few screws on the bottom.Last edited by LS1WS6; 06-03-2007 at 07:04 PM.
