Reckless driving ticket? How serious?
So last week i hurried out the door to make it to kinkos to make some huge 3ftx4ft copies. Well i hopped on the new highway that just opened to see how it was, plus it might have been a quicker way to get to my destination.
Well i am cruising along the freeway, i see my exit i get over three lanes to exit (kinda quick, almost missed it) then when i get to the light i roll through the red light and continue down the road to where im going. I get about 2 miles down the road when i make a left hand turn, and notice a crown vic sliding sideways around the same turn with lights on. So i figure i must have been speeding and didnt see him.
Well i get pulled out the car and all that good stuff. I guess i was going 87 on the free way (is a posted 65) and he said i blew through that red light and he had to go 100+ to catch up to me where he finally did. So i got a 87 in a 65 criminal ticket, and a wreckless driving ticket.
Now i wasnt on my supersport crotch rocket, or in the ls1 vett. I was in my 4.2 liter big ole f-150 extra slow turd edition. haha i didnt think it goes that fast.
Anyways it still stands i have a court date in a months time. I always dress up for any kind of court. And its been awhile since ive gotten any kind of ticket. Think ill be good? Im hoping the wreckless driving will be dropped and ill be given the chance to take traffic school for speeding. Its been over 3 yrs since ive done that.
Never gotten a ticket like this before so you think ill be ok? No loss of licence or huge $1000 fines?

Loss of licence? Not likely. Huge fines? Maybe. Its going to depend on what your previous record looks like, how much of a dick the judge is, and the specific laws of your state...
I would expect at LEAST $500 in fines though... easy.

He might drop the reckless driving ticket but still stick you with the speeding ticket. Or better yet he might drop the RD ticket and lighten the load of the speeding one, maybe down to a 15 over or something. But in all honesty I don't see him dropping both with just a slap on the wrist (fines and schooling). Did the cop make a report to go along with your tickets? IE did he write down he had to go 100+ to catch you, or any other BS details? That could be bad. If there's no report, I'd think you'd be good to go on the RD ticket. Your age and traffic history could be on your side or against you in this one... Goodluck though and thank God you weren't in the Vette, lol.

A couple of google searches revealed this;
28-693. Reckless driving; classification; license; surrender
A. A person who drives a vehicle in reckless disregard for the safety of persons or property is guilty of reckless driving.
B. A person convicted of reckless driving is guilty of a class 2 misdemeanor.
C. In addition, the judge may require the surrender to a police officer of any driver license of the convicted person, shall report the conviction to the department and may order the driving privileges of the person to be suspended for a period of not more than ninety days. On receipt of the abstract of conviction and order, the department shall suspend the driving privilege of the person for the period of time ordered by the judge.
D. If a person who is convicted of a violation of this section has been previously convicted of a violation of this section, section 13-1102 or section 13-1103, subsection A, paragraph 1, in the driving of a vehicle, or section 28-708, 28-1381, 28-1382 or 28-1383 within a period of twenty-four months:
1. The person is guilty of a class 1 misdemeanor.
2. The person is not eligible for probation, pardon, suspension of sentence or release on any basis until the person has served not less than twenty days in jail.
3. The judge may require the surrender to a police officer of any driver license of the person and shall immediately forward the abstract of conviction to the department.
4. On receipt of the abstract of conviction, the department shall revoke the driving privilege of the person.
E. The dates of the commission of the offense are the determining factor in applying subsection D of this section. A second or subsequent violation for which a conviction occurs as provided in this section does not include a conviction for an offense arising out of the same series of acts.
F. On pronouncement of a jail sentence under this section, and after the court receives confirmation that the person is employed or is a student, the court may provide in the sentence that if the defendant is employed or is a student the defendant can continue employment or schooling for not more than twelve hours per day nor more than five days per week. The defendant shall spend the remaining days or parts of days in jail until the sentence is served and shall be allowed out of jail only long enough to complete the defendant's actual hours of employment or schooling.
and;
Class 2 misdemeanor: up to $750.00 fine and four months in jail

Try and talk to the prosecuting attorney and see if he will deal with you. Ask to have it put off to a later date as you are seeking legal representation. Go to the office that the officer is stationed out of, get his schedule for the next couple of months and have it scheduled on his days off. The cop wont show on his off day and it might get thrown out.
Was it the new 202?? :x

DO NOT attempt to bargain with the prosecution attorney. They get promoted by case WINS. They do not care about you. They do NOT care about what impact this will have on your life.. In fact I know a few that laugh about it, You DESERVE it as YOU broke the law..
GET A LAYWER.. RD is a fairly serious traffic violation and most PA will salivate at getting a shot to burn you for it.. You got to court to find Justice, That's what you find JUST US.. getting reamed.. I have family in the Law Enforcement field.. Just a thought. My Negligent in the 2nd (Lesser offense then RD) was 500.00. First offense so I got it reduced to 250.00 then deferred.. Don't play with this

I had a speeding ticket for a 98 in a 65 that was a $208 fine which i was able to get out of because he did not have it locked and given the radar/area he would not have been able to start his radar in time so it was a complete guess.... Whew
Reckless driving is 8 points in SD's point system, 14 points you lose your licence. The only thing more is DUI or Street Racing. Got one of those for trying to get going on a snowpack at an uphill stop sign, cop seen the tires spinning and they caught a dry spot and just chirped a second, and off i went well he nailed me for it, but an understanding judge seen things my way.... got out of it, would have been a $135 fine and loss of licence for 30 days.
Not stopping at a stop sign--- $112 fine and 30 day loss of licence... didnt get outa that one but also didnt bother getting an lawyer...
