Premium gas vs. Regular
What type do you use on your daily driver?
My dd is an Mitsubishi Eclipse 2000 2.4 L V4 it has about 112k miles. I have been using premium gas on it.
Does premium gas actually help?

no, you're wasting your money if the manual doesn't call for it. it can actually hurt performance and mileage (slightly), just like if you were to take timing out of the tune.

My dd is a 2002 Avalanche and i use the middle one on it. I just don't like the sound of Regular and i don't wanna use Premium on it either so the middle one works but its only Chevron for my cars

Higher octane reduces detonation by being less "flamable", for lack of a more sophisticated term. Like everyone said, if the manual doesn't call for it there are no performance gains to using it, unless you increase compression, advance the timing, etc.

I use the lowest octane that does not knock... Higher octane take more spark to ignite. The goal is to use the lowest octane that works for your vehicle without knocking. Lower octane is generally easier on the vehicle in cold weather conditions. Too much octane will actually hurt performance.

Gets 85 octane. Doesn't ping, so it is enough.

Pewter- 2001 Camaro Z28 M6
93 in the camaro (cammed/tuned)
87 in the trailblazer
87 in the honda
93 in the motorcycle.
as said above if the car does not knock, and is not tuned and the manual does not call for premium, then use regular. otherwise your wasting money.

Though with a real tune (mail order or in person, no supershits) for premium that avalanche would pick up nicely silverws6. Though the most noticible difference will be from torque management along with shift pressures and patterns

93 in my 05 legacy gt, it require 91 from factory but it is tuned for 93.
93 in my bike with custom power commander tune.
But the eclipse in question will drive the same with 87 or 93. So just use 87 and save yourself some money.

Liquid Red- 2008 Pontiac G8 GT
My 04 maxima recommends premium for maximum performance. I don't drive my maxima to use it's full "maximum performance" so it gets regular unleaded.

im not looking to start a thread fight but higher cant hurt any thing other then cat,
the higher the oct ratting the slower the fuel will burn.
if the fire is slower the more heat can me used to push the piston down.
if theres any fire left then it goes out the exhaust port..
hot air flows better then cold air there for even if u have fire left after burn then it would flow better making more power.
or thats how ive always been told.
and a foot note lead is only used as a top end lube for the valves and things. it wont bring the oct ratting up
