NHRA Driver Mark Niver killed in crash
Watching the video the crash doesn't seem that bad... If the sand traps would have been a little longer he would have walked away.

damn, I'm sure it's relative but just looking at the video it doesn't look to me like he's going very fast at all by the time he got to the net. Looks like just a freak accident. Any kind of angle and it might not have folded the nose back like that.

I have an idea the chassis of the car flexed downward in the middle and caused it to fold up like that. Bad shit for sure. RIP.

Wow, wtf!? That looked like a pretty innocent wreck to me. I'd like to hear what his actual injuries were. My guess is when it folded, the cockpit crushed him.

even know the net flexes a bit it still came back to the car its like hitting a brick wall still those cars run 6? so what that speed 200? so probably still doing over 100 when he hit the sand than the net that has to go its what killed him.

agreed, the net is what killed him... the sudden stop.. fucking stupid design
even hydro barriers and deeper sand would have been safer.

funny how these things play out in racing. A wreck that looks horrific and you know someone died doesn't always kill the driver and something that doesn't look that bad does kill them. Case in point was Dale Sr at Daytona. I've watched that wreck 1000 times and every time I can't believe he died in that wreck. Just a freak set of circumstances just like this one. At least these guys died doing something they loved to do. People die just doing everyday things.
