Next Gen Small Block Revisited
So a little tidbit on the new GM small block....
GM has confirmed the new small-block V-8s will feature aluminum blocks and heads, direct injection, and a new combustion system. Our sources say the C7 engine will displace 5.5 liters, with a target output of about 440 horsepower.
The new small-block will retain a traditional overhead-valve layout, ensuring compact dimensions and lower manufacturing costs. Prototype engines reportedly are already running on test beds in Detroit.

Which will more likely mean better power-to-weight ratio. Mewonders if it will be an LS block or another designation?

always dirty- 2013 Ram 2014 Caddy ATS
I wonder if it will have similarities to the direct injection v-6 that Cadillac is using.

isn't the caddy V-6 a high feature (read, DOHC) engine?
If so I doubt that it would have many similarities to that. Though I recall an article about how GM overcame the problem of incorporating VVT on a cam in block engine. I bet some version of this engine will eventually get that tech. DI is a big win no matter how you slice it. Though it opens a whole new world of tuning challenges for the aftermarket.
It's really exciting to see higher HP smaller displacement lighter V8s coming to market. Goes to show how much life there is left in these "monsters"
Betcha there will be a next gen small block in a miata before the corvettes even hit the street

That doesn't sound too bad at all for a base engine, especially if the theory that the whole C7 model lineup will move to an aluminum chassis holds true. But I am not a fan of the front or rear styling at all. The side profile is just fine
