    Next Gen Small Block

It's not much but it's something.

GM is investing $900M in their V8 program for the Next gen small block. Small quote with the only meaty bits of their press release:

"The next generation small block engine family will have unprecedented fuel efficiency through direct injection and an all-new advanced combustion system design. The new engine family will rely exclusively on aluminum engine blocks, which are lighter and contribute to the improved fuel efficiency. In addition to being E85 ethanol capable, these engines are being designed with the capability to meet increasingly stringent criteria emissions standards expected throughout this decade."

No specs on power or displacement. I'm sure it'll come in time. Maybe these will be out in time for my engine swap and I can get one of these with a new ECU for my car. Till such time as that proves possible I'm still eyeing that LS3. mmmmmm.... LS3

that would still be pretty interesting though. something like a a sub-5.0L engine...short stroke TT...so you'd have a high revving high horsepower v8 which could make power along a huge powerband. tell me that that's not kickass.

if by kickass you mean 1980's formula 1 kickass then yes... indeed it is. but if by kickass you mean american burbling small block "there's no replacement for displacement" kickass..... then no.... no it's not....

They need to stop going up in displacement as far as mileage for sure. This will probably be 5 liters at best

I think their mileage is good considering their displacements.

The displacement wars won't stop rising. GM has the 572, Ford has the 615(I think) and Mopar has the Mammoth 526 Hemi.

those were never put into production cars affected by cafe standards. I'm talking about the progression from the '97 5.7 -> '05 6.0 -> '08? 6.2. That might be a negligible difference in performance between those from displacement only, but it's not going to help mileage
Also, you're a little low with your cubic inch numbers on mopars and bbc's people build way bigger

That is true. As of now, isn't the largest displacement production motor the 427/LS7? I wonder if there will be a production 454/455 in the upcoming Camaros?

currently yes. I don't forsee a 455. Gm skurred. Not a huge gain on emissions engines i'd imagine with crap manifolds, a limp dick cam, and multiple cats. Also the longer stroke won't last as long and is more likely to consume oil

But is sure would be nice to see a fifth, sixth, or seventh gen Camaro with a 455SD in it. Oh how I dream.

Wouldn't it need to bring back Pontiac before it created a 455SD again? It would be nice to see a 454 back in the Camaro though, even though the big block is dead.
