Yea, an interesting thing. If I move my eyes off the spot then back again, it'll go from b&w back to color. That's cool.

It has to do with color not necessarily an optical illusion.

example.

Why does the sun look orange red or however you preceive it... when it's nearing dusk?

has to do with light refracting through the atmosphere your eyes work in much of the same manner.

Certain colors of the spectrum of light refracts in your eyes, as Your eyes adjust to the orange and blue at one instant... then imediately you flood a prism with black and white coloration... and slowly your eyes adjust to the new colors. and at one point you will see every shade of color...

I would suspect this is how it would work.. but infact the image has 4 main colors... white, black, blue, and orange. Any monitor/TV uses 3 main colors... Red, Blue, and yellow. To make all colors of the spectrum. Yes, even LCD monitors.

But, this is definately a nifty ass trick hehe

now stare at just the blue.. for a few seconds then move the mouse... you'll see the color does not change...

likewise if you just stare at just the orange...

the reason is... if you stare at the one point.. you let all forms of coloration into your eye... and thus for a breif second see all shades of color before everything goes back to black and white.

use your hand to block most of the blue if not all of it... and just stare at the orange sky.. then switch it with your mouse... the image remains unchanged.

likewise if you cover up the sky... and just stare at the blue.
