Need help with tire sizes.
I just bought ZR1 rims 17x9 (4)
I am looking at putting 275/45/17s on the rear and 255/45/17 front.
Are those sizes going to be ok or will they off balance my car? Someone told me I need to have 275s all the way around but I just needed ur inputs first. Thanks

Go with the 274/45/17 all the way around. It will keep your overall diameters the same. The 255 should be fine on a 9" rim, but the 275 is wider, so I would stick with that. I'm not saying you cant put the 255 on, I just wouldn't recommend it (also, just personal preference if it were my car). I've been working with tires for almost 4 years now, so just an "experienced opinion".

I think you mean 275/40/17 for the rears, not 45s.
You don't have to have 275s all around. The thing to be concerned with is the overall diameter.
For instance, one brand of a 275/40/17 might have an overall diameter of 25.7"
You would want the front tires to have an overall diameter very close to that. If the diameter between the front and back tires differs quite a bit, it can throw your ABS off. If its off more than .5" its not a good match.
I checked the same brand of tire for the 255/45/17 and it had an overall diameter of 26.1" so you should be ok with that combo. I don't know that I would want a 255 on a 9" wheel though
You can find the overall diameter of a specific tire at tirerack in the specs. Hope this helps.

Why 255's up front on a 9" rim??
I would stay 275 all the way around.

Personally, i'd go with 315/35/17s in the rear and 275/40/17s up front. Great traction, and the look mean as hell. My buddy's 02 ws6 has them. Here's pics.
And they smoke up quite nice too
and yes, in the first pic the car doesn't have stripes. That pic was taken before the stripes were put on.

315 dont really like to go on a 9 " rim do they???
You have to be pushing it. It does look sick though.

Well nvm let my change that,
why not 255s on the front on a 9 inch rim?
Just curious, I also do some autocross from time to time.

Mostly just money issues. Also I will do some autocrossing so I dont want the front tires to be too wide. I just wanted to make sure they will be ok.
So if overall the diameters are within .5inch it should be fine?

You should be ok with your 255 275 combo. The 255 will fit on a 9" wheel, but it may look odd or too thin.
You would be better off with 275s all around plus you could rotate your tires with all 4 being 275s. The price of 255s versus 275s isn't that much different is it?

^about 60 bucks each in difference from 255 and 275 unless we have a sponsor with tires?, I been searching a lot for the past 2 days the best deals to what I want and to how much I have to play with.

That was a typo with the pricing of tires.
I can get 275 for $130 shipped each.
255s for $115 so there is a 30 dollar difference, I might just do that then but still im looking at over 500 for tires plus to put them on and balance them? I paid more for just the rims.
