Talking My arcade cabinet build (Pic heavy)

This is my 1st cabinet build. As you can see, it is not finished. The marquee is currently being made & I need to take more measurements for the CP overlay. I am also replacing the black t-molding with red. The side art will be hand painted by my girlfriend.

I started with an old particle board Gunsmoke cabinet that I picked up from a guy on Craigslist for free. Replaced my desktop last year & the old tower was used for this project.

Here it is when I brought it home:

I scraped off all the artwork:

Painted it black (Combo of roller & rattle can):

Cut a piece of 1/2" playwood to mount the monitor on & bolted/screwed that into the existing mounting:

I then mounted my HP LP2065 LCD monitor via the vesa holes:

I then cut a piece of black poster board to go around the monitor & glued that to the existing frame:

Then I got to work on the control panel. I went with your standard Street Fighter II layout & painted it flat black

Picked up a set of cheap Logitech 2.1 PC speakers from Newegg. I got lucky & they were small enough to fit the existing speaker area so I just laid them in there. The subwoofer is at the bottom of the cab next to the PC tower.

I then used some 3M double sided tape to mount the volume control in a place where I can reach it:

Here you can see the underside of the CP, the USB hub I mounted in the front of the cab & the PC power switch above the hub. I am running Paradise Arcade Shop’s USB controller.

The keyboard & mouse are behind the coin door:

Here’s a shot of the subwoofer, PC tower & smart power strip at the bottom of the cabinet. I used the PC as the main power source:

I'm in it for $350 before artwork. I was able to find a torrent with a lot of working N64 ROMs.

Wow. That's friggin' awesome. Excellent work man. Wish I could find random arcade cabinets on craigslist for free. Everything I've every seen like that is around $500.

The PC is running Windows XP. I'm running Mala as my front end for the emulators.

Project 64 v1.7 for N64, Nestopia for NES, FreezeSMS for Sega Master System & ZSNES for SNES. Of course MAME for arcade games.

nice... i might have to pick up a project for my basement now!!! i know a sire called romnation has a shit ton of roms... that is where i get mine from... most of them are good but evry once in a while you'll get one that won't save data and gives 'corrupt file' error on the load...

Use pleasuredome.uk (or something like that. I'm at work right now) for complete MAME ROM sets.

    Use torrents for the others.

I ordered red t-molding this morning & the guy doing my marquee is almost finished with it.

I still need to get him more measurements for my control panel so he can create an overlay with button positions in mind.
