really? How was the gulf before the BP spill? nice place eh?

Oh right almost forgot about all that oil from the Ixtoc I spill of 1979 that spewed 30,000 barrels a day from June 3, 1979 until March 23, 1980.

Not trying to come off harsh.... I just like how the media forgets how this isn't the first time this happened.... it isn't as bad as the last time, yet..... and just like in 1979 it will be stopped. It will be cleaned. and in 30 years everyone will have forgotten about this one too.

    Sigh.....

A record 140 million gallons of oil. Massive slicks reached the northern Mexican Gulf coast and Texas, where it would eventually coat almost 170 million of U.S. beaches.

From what I remember sometime last week, they were talking about how this had surpassed the Exxon-Valdez oil spill at that point, which was the largest oil spill in U.S. history....

If 1979 was worse than this as far as volume and failure of containment, why has this not been discussed?

Not trying to come off like a royal A-hole...

Obama is on his way to LA right now.

    Cap isn't working right now...

Obama has spent more time on the golf course than the gulf coast.

obama should be welded to the pipe, with the pipe shoved up his ass, then his mouth should be stitched to all gores ass, and al gores mouth stitched to oprahs ass, and oprah mouth to tipper gore, and so on.... until its a 1 mile stretch of idiots creating the first human centipede plumbing system...

also, from what i read, the ocean floor naturally leaks millions of gallons of oil each year, but is also eaten by bacteria

I've seen you reference this a few times. Just because there was a spill 30 years ago doesn't make this one alright to have and doesn't mean that this one will be just fine. So you don't expect the technology and preventative measures to have increased in the last 30 years? Just because it leaked then doesn't make this one OK and any less of a tragedy. There is zero excuse as to why this thing has been leaking this long.....should've been plugged a long time ago. It also doesn't mean we as americans can't bitch about it because it happened 30 years ago.
