the reason they give them numbers for names is because they are sold in many european countries with many different languages. easier then making 15 unique nameplates, one for each language.

it drives me insane in one part because this douchebag next door bought a pile of shit bmw last summer and was lauding about how wonderful it was...then the headgasket blew out of it, the water pump failed, the alternator took a dump, and the clutch blew up. moron bought it with over 100k miles on it for $10k. course none of these things that went wrong with it were his fault and the car was still so much better than any other car on the road and how dare i not know, or give a shit, about how brilliant bmw's model designation series is.
