    Know anything about Jeeps?

I know this is probably the wrong place for this but the other forum has like 8 posts on it and looks like it barely gets looked at. My buddy is posting on a Jeep site the same problem but I figured I would post here, knowing the large collective auto know ledge here.

Problem: My buddy has a 94-95 Jeep Wrangler with the inline 6. We changed out the tranny, clutch, and slave cylinder a couple weeks ago. Prior to this it was sitting for around 9 months while we were deployed. We have changed the battery, cap and rotor, fuel filter, oil and filter, diff. fluid, and ignition coil. It won't start. It turns over fine but there is no spark. We pulled a plug wire and tried to get an arc on some metal but no luck. Then we tested the coil with a circuit tester and nothing. Just wondering if anyone can give us some help here.

Thanks for any and all help.

might need a new distributor or maybe the new coil is bad

i usually find the best way is to get a hot light and start at the battery and find where the power stops,it could be as simple as a bad ground somewhere down the line

try the crank position sensor, if you had the tranny out most likely you either ,pinched the wire or something. It should be located near the top on the drivers side of the bell housing.

Here is the jeep site I am a member of

All good suggestions and we will be trying most of them. Some of them we've already done. As for the crank position sensor...94's had a crank position sensor?

Yup they're at the back of the engine inside the bell housing. There's also a pick up in the distributor that's been known to crap out

I'd bet an obscene amount of money this is it. Used to happen to a buddy of mine's 93 cherokee all the time. The sensor is exposed to the mud/water and gets gummed up pretty badly (and often).

Actually they are not that bad, they are like any other vehicle (except Fords, they are worse) they have issues and will break eventually. they are like gm's in the sense that the parts are often cheaper than their counterparts. they also hold up better than most.I have an 89 cherokee it is still going even after the origeonal owners neglegted it.

Asd for the cost of the crank position sensor it was 54 bucks when I bought mine 5-6 years ago.

Like it was previously stated the crank sensor is one of the most common causes for this, expecially in a 4 liter.

Also there is a pick up under the rotor in the distributor, if that is bad you will have no input to the coil as well, hence no spark.

Are you getting power to the coil? If not start with a pickup, you willneed the part number off of the distributor to determine which one you will need.

If that does not work let me know. I am a Service Manager at a Chrysler Dodge Jeep dealer so I can help further if needed.

Fords are the worst huh ? Odd on a National survey for the worst used cars etc
I don't see that many Fords ..Hmm in fact I don't see any,...
    See a couple Chevy's tho.

These vehicles showed multiple Used Car Verdicts that were much worse than average, according to our survey respondents. They consistently had more problems than other models overall.

To the OP. Crank and Cam sensors are extremely common and can be hard to diagnose. I see alot that simply fail and the lack of communication causes a no fault (OBD/OBD II) issue.. Meaning that it won't trigger an MIL or Check Engine lamp..

    Good advice that.
I tore my hair out over a turbo Daytona a couple years back...Changed all kinds of sensors, plugs, cap & rotor etc.. It was simply a bad hall effect pick up.. That wasn't a no start tho.. It would start, dump black smoke like Spy Hunter and surge and die..Still hate that car.

I had a 2.2 Turbo Daytona as well, the older ones actually had distributor bearing issues and would take out pick ups on a regualr basis.
