knife people...
First off let me say that I realize this is cheap chinese made bullshit but my wife bought it for me as a gift last year when I asked for a butchering set for deer. It's an outdoor edge set and I guess for the money it's not too bad but it's still cheap shit. Not what I would've picked out but lesson learned.
The problem I have is the edges are chipping. There's been nothing but meat cut with these and I think I've only done 5 deer with them. They just sharpen for shit. I'm wondering if it's how I'm sharpening them or if it's just the cheap metal. I'm using the smith sharpener shown ( also a knife sharpening kit that I asked for but not the one that I asked for. ). Would I get better results just using a stone? Or is this a result of me not properly using the sharpener?

when you sharpen your knives the idea is to fold the steel back into the knife... kind of hard to explane with out showing you... use a stone...

well, it's a junk set pretty much but I gotta work with what I have. I can't just toss it because of the gift from the wife thing so I have to use it and talk about how nice it is.......the things I do.

wet stone oil and a leather belt works, I have always held the knife at a 45 degree angle, and push the edge of the towards the wet stone dont slide it away, gotta get some oil on their to. Then after you get done take it basically rub the knife on the leather belt easiest way I can explain it on the internet I would have to show you in person for a better explanation

When I sharpen my knife at work, I use a buffing wheel. I can and have shaved with it before.

If you have a die grinder on your work bench, that will fix the edge and make it fairly sharp as well. But it eats material up fast, so you can't do it to often. Or do it a lot and tell your wife you used up all the material!
