I've been disenfranchised today when I went to vote
I'm a minority (asian). And I live in Ohio. The weather was typical Ohio weather, on/off rain with a light breeze. I drove out to my polling station to cast my votes. [sarcasm]I walked up to a couple of old ladies working the front desk and they asked me for my name and a form of ID [driver's license, state/ federal issued ID car, bank statement, birth certificate, utility bills, ect]. I was shocked! I've heard on the TV and radio for the past month that they will be asking for my ID before I could vote for proof of residency and proof of my citizenship. There I was, dumbfounding in hearing that they wanted my ID. I knew they talked about it all this time, but I didn't think they would actually ask me for it! Damn, did I ever feel disenfranchised. I mumbled under my breath as I pulled out my driver's license, the same license that I used to legally drive my car to the polling station. What made it worse was that the nice old lady had to adjust her glasses so that she could find my name in the registry to make sure I was a registered voter. The nerve of the government making this kind lady read through a book to find my name. Then she told me I had to sign my name in the registry as proof that I already voted. I actually had to sign my name! Of all the dirty downlow things to do. First they ask for my ID, and then they asked for my signature!? She was lucky I'm fluent in reading, writing, and speaking english; I do live in America after all. So I signed my life away [erm, I mean my John Hancock] and another nice old lady set-up the fandangled electronic voting machine for me so that I could vote. They must have spent a pretty penny on these machines, the screens where nice and big, easy to read thanks to the clear text and pretty colors. So I pressed the screen making my vote choices [no pregnent chads this time]. After all was said and done, the machine took my votes and turned off the monitor. I slowly walked away waiting for someone to ask if I wanted to vote again, just in case I didn't get it right the first time. I looked around, and no one offered me another vote. So I furiously walked out of the voting station feeling disenfranchised and infuriated. Please excuse me while I make my claim with the Ohio chapter of the ACLU. [/sarcasm]
And to think, the ACLU and other groups where bitching about the same Voter ID initiative in Arizona and New Mexico.

I'm a minority also. I'm a white Anglo Saxon protestant in South Texas so I know exactly how you feel. Lets kill something or blow something up.
This is my signature. It is mine. Nobody else has one like it.
