The police investigation of Kalitta's crash is complete and has been released. Some of it is all ready known and some of it is pretty surprising.

wow... so guy had a beer, raced, had an incredibly uncommon sequence of failures and occurances, and is in the end dead and events described like this... Makes you think--be careful everybody!! He was way more experienced than any of us that are out taking chances and bein dumb!!!

The surprising part is that he was braking, most thought he was unconscious and unable to do anything. The BAC is a non issue I think.

It's all about fault, lawsuits, and insurance companies at this point I'm sure.

I don't think they can pursue a lawsuit. They sign a statement that releases the track of any responsibility for injury, barring gross negligence it would be a non issue and proving the track had anything to do with that accident would be difficult. The only people they could go after is ESPN for the camera crane but they may be covered under the tracks' release also. I don't know about that though.

I agree--that level is insignificant. But now will be used as reason for the accident. So, be careful... He was obviously quite alert and calm headed--breaking and steering till the end. Bad deal...R.I.P.

While he could be slapped with a post-mortem fine, I don't see how it would apply otherwise. There was nothing driver-error related in the accident report.
