Interesting Gas saver haha..actually not a bad idea

I just saw this one guy around where I live is selling one of those old rabbits and its a diesel.. I went to look at it in person and its been taken VERY good care of. I was thinking of maybe picking this up as a gas saver as a side to the trans am. Has anyone had these cars to relate to tell me how good they are on gas and such, I was amazed at how the paint is on it the thing looks fricken brand new. any thoughts?

Depending on what it sells for, that's a helluva car. 40-50 mpg is tough to argue with.
