I Made a Cigar Box Guitar

Well I was layed off this week so I decided I sould do something with my time. It is still to cold to play with my car outside. So I decided to make a cigar box guitar. I do not play guitar so I made it for my brother-in-law. I'm sure he will have fun with it. Here are some pics. Hope you guys like it.

is this just the result of intense bordom or is there a "calling" for these?

I know it isn't what everyone thinks of making with their free time, but it was fun. My brother-in-law is kind of a Hippy so im sure he will have fun with it, IF it can hold a tune.

it's really neat, but looking intensely at my 20 guitars i spotted a difference:
    yours is fretless.... purpose?

i played a fretless 7 string... it was amazing!!! hard to press in the right spot all the time to get the right notes but super fun to play on....

Not a critique but do you have any idea how hard it is to find the correct intonation point on a guitar neck let alone groove then insert a fret? I'll bet it's a real PITA.....

yup. i refretted a guitar once. never again, thanks a lot. but then, i never built a guitar from scratch. so yes, better leave it that way and make it a nice lapsteel. definitely needs a nut though.

I think he will use a slide or something to play it. Not sure on the right word for it. It slides on you finger and i think that is how you catch the notes.

you got it, slide or bottleneck. still needs a nut, the pendant to the bridge on the upper end of the neck:

for slide play, the strings should hover above the neck a few millimeters. three at least, better 5.
