    I give up

it's impossible to hold onto money. I'll never give out credit card info again. The gym membership I cancelled last month just charged me $60 for this month. The item I bought online, which was misadvertised as something it wasn't, was shipped back to them almost a month ago and they still have not refunded my money and I'm losing hope they will. Fees and little things at every little corner, use an atm-$4 service, use my credit card-$10 cash advance. I've lost almost $1000 these last 3 months that way without actually getting anything. I want to close my bank account and keep everything in cash, and throw away my credit card.

Debit cards are much easier to deal with. The credit card companies will chase down bad merchants if you call your company. I had to do that once when I tried to purchase a Gtech online from a store that was offering free shipping. I never got the merchandise and my credit card company chased after them and took a statement from me and credited my account in a couple of days.

That also works if you get fucked around trying to return something.... say someone sold you something and told you it would work for what you were trying to do, and you later find out that it didn't..... if the store wont refund you, you can call your CC company and tell them not to make that payment and you can just go return the item and tell them to fuck off...

but i also think they are a PITA, and the bill is always surprising at the end of the month

Yeah, I'll be going after the money. It just sucks, it's such a hassle. The store I tried to do the return with kept saying they'll refund it in a day or two. It was last supposed to be credited back to me on tuesday.

Every year I have all my credit card numbers changed at no cost. This prevents "auto billing" from pecker heads. It's free and very effective.

I had the same types of problems with my last bank and they were unwilling to work with me on the problems so I ended up canceling then and haven't had any type of credit card since then. it can be hard because of all the things you end up having to do (like renew your drivers license online) that requires a credit card. however I have found that I am keeping much better track of my money and really don't regret it at all.
Alright... I'm starting it now. Try not to piss yourself.

NEVER NEVER NEVER use your CC for a cash advance.

If you're using your credit card to get a cash advance, it's quite likely you're (like me) the kind of person who doesn't pay off every credit card every month. The cash advance part of your balance is the one that is last to be paid off and the one with the absolutely ridiculous interest rate (something like 25-30% in some situations). EFF THAT!!!

I had racked up some huge debt in credit cards. I took a second job and paid them off. Now, I use my paypal debit card for pretty much everything except what I pay for in person with cash. I keep two credit cards with small balances and keep payments going on them so that eventually I'll have better credit than I do now.

Seriously, stop bothering with ATM cards. As for the things that you bought that you're having problems with, you probably could go through your credit card company and dispute the charges. They can just charge back the store and then go from there. Check with the issuing bank.

No, I always pay them off. I was on vacation in Hainan, at a casino and forgot my debit card at home. Some stuff you just can't get around using a CC or debit card for. The gym membership was one, they don't let you sign up without your card info on file. I think I will try to stop using the card as much as possible.
