    Hunting Season's Coming

OK, all you folks, tell us about your hunting plans this upcoming season. My 16 year old, his best friend and myself are going bow hunting for Mule Deer in the Mt Evans wilderness area.

I'll be 20 feet up a white oak tree here in ohio starting sept. 30th. I typically only hunt deer with a little squirrel hunting here and there. I filled my tags last year (3) and hope to do the same this year. I'm getting low on venison.

Sounds like a couple of you guys have some cutting edge bows, which is what I suspected of LS1ers. Me, I'm shooting a Browning recurve, with no sights and aluminum shafts. My boy is shooting a Parker and his friend a Darton.

Kinda want to try it, but never done it before and don't know if I will. Seems expensive, hard to find a place to do it, and I'm going to be too disgusted to cut open and pull the reeking nasty guts out of a bloody animal cuz I can be a wimp like that. I've got a bowtech extreme solo with peep, drop away rest and shitload of other stuff, and several handguns but no rifle or shotgun. The only one that'd be any good for hunting is a 6.5" .357 mag built on an N-frame, I could load it up with some hot 180grain loads. Actually got a scope and base for it too.

TMF, the upgrade isn't necessary. I looked at buying a new bow last year before the season started. After looking at the prices they wanted just for the bow alone I decided I wasn't investing that kinda money in a bow. $700 on a bow is just stupid IMO. So I kept my 10 year old Bear Whitetail II and went hunting. Killed 3 deer last year so the old bow must work just fine.

Yea, you're right. My 16 year old wanted me to go traditional this year, so I said OK. I bought a used Browning recurve (50#), no sight and aluminum shafts with crossfire broadheads. I'm good out to 30 yards, hell, I'll be glad if I get a shot!
