I have heard the blocks suck because they dont have enough nickle in them and they break very easily, just something someone told me that the motors are crap.

Your description is kind of general, depends what he spent that $6600 on, stating how much money that's put into a motor isn't exactly enough to determine how much power it's making.

But anyways, since you're just talking about numbers, I've heard it's difficult and very expensive to get halfway decent power out of those 305's. So most likely, the guy you're talking about probably isn't putting down any kind of amazing numbers.

However, numbers aren't really the only thing that matter. I have seen a few pretty quick 305 powered third gen's across the net.

Well, that's just a waste of money to mod that.. Slow at stock and slow after all the bolt on mods are on..

I know this because I had one years ago and tried to mod it like an idiot.. Never got it faster then my friends stock "automatic" 91 LT1 powered Vette..

I even changed the cams out and had head work done on it too...

    Sadly now demodded :(

Biggest problem with the 305 is the cylinder bore is too small which creates a problem with valve shrouding.

Other than that it's pretty much a cast crank 350.

yeah but you have options like the stealth ram which costs something obscene like three grand, and then you have all this small stupid shit like throttle body foils, which also racks up the bill quickly.

Look through the third gen section of a JEGS catalog. It's not hard to see why lots of moron guys who have thousands of dollars in a iroc still have a slow shitty car.

I'm not saying they can't be done right... there are just a lot of ways to waste money building a thirdgen. The first of which being the purchase of a car with the 305 TPI

the car in the link used a stock intake for a while, aftermarket runners didn't really help. Less than 6k in that setup including turbos

I didn't click your link, but I wasn't saying you can't build a fast thirdgen, I was just saying it's easy to spend lots of money and get nowhere.

But I guess that's true with any car

    00 Z28 sold :-(

Does he still have the tpi in there? For 6k you can make a monster of a 305 but the tpi has to go. A good cam/head setup and a carb will do wonders.
