    help with an import

sorry to post about an import.. and if this needs to go to the tech section i'm sorry to have posted it here..

i searched google, and different eclipse forums w/o luck. car in question is a 99 eclipes with a 420a 2.0 4 cyl with 5 speed. problem is it's sputtering at low rpms/taking off. this is my girlfriends car and would like to fix the issue.

i did some maintenance on it today just bacause it needed it, plugs with proper gap, wires, fuel filter, and new batt(old on had a dead cell). i cleaned the sensors around the TB but not the TB itself. i also checked the coil for a good blueish/whiteish spark. no vac. leaks. ohh it once had a O2 code that was cleared with a scaner. but not replaced. there is no CEL on the dash.

i'm sure i'll end up figureing it out before long. but wanted a lil help from you guys/girls.

I am trying to remember if that is the version with the MAF integrated in the air filter canister. Is it a turbo? Definately replace the O2 sensor.

Could be a couple of things. Blocked cat, dirty throttle body, fuel pump on the way out. Have you used any fuel system cleaner at all?

TB is still a lil dirty, will try cleaning. she nor i have put in any fuel cleaner. i want to add the 2 cycle. i told her that i use it in the goat. thats all i had to say to convince her it was ok to use.

i talked with an import friend of mine who had a similar problem with a acura 4cyl 5 speed. he said it was the TPS. i already took the sensors off the TB and cleaned them, but that dont mean either one is'nt on it's way to takeing a shit.. Still no Check Engine Light.

this car has a coil pack, and has a very good blue/whiteish spark.

it sputters at low rpm/take off. >1200rpm

How many miles are on the car? Could be fuel pump/lines?

sorry.. it has 120,000 as of yesterday. always changed the oil at around 3-5k.

i'm not sure about the fuel pump. i'll look into it. btw.. the engine runs smooth, no misses, no skips. this is with out running a compresstion test, which i can do by the weekend. untill then, i'll read up on how to check the fuel pump for proper output.

**somthing to add to the list. the cam sensor has had a small oil leak for a while. i also fixed that with a new OEM gasket and cleaned the mateing surface with cleaner but did'nt clean the sensor itself. it could be jamed with oil/crap in the plug area.. giving weak signals.

ok........... spray for vaccum leaks again, AND spray around the fuel injectors, if the o rings go bad, they will leak.
