Helmet for Drag Racing?
I have never seriously looked into buying a helmet for drag racing and would like some suggestions.
The raceways near here require one for all cars that run 13.99 or quicker. I've skirted by this before but don't want to test the patience of the tracks' managements.

the tracks around where im at never make you wear a helmet, but if they start making you, bell is decent and cheap if you trust ebay enough

Try and get a auto racing helmet and not a motocycle helmet.
The motorbike helmets will have a safety rating of M2005(latest spec good for ten years) and the one you want will have an SA2005 rating.
Of course they are a little more money for the legit SA rated helmets but ask yourself how much is your cranium worth?

a helmet is nothing to cheap out on, My bike helmet cost a tick over 200 and that was on sale. but you can get a decent one for about 100-200. I mean, how much is your head worth to you?

wow 13.99 dam ALL GM V8s can do that...LOL. So should we also wear them while driving on the street? or at least where you are. Here it is 8.59 in the 1/8th or 12.99 or 12.59 (can't remember) in the 1/4.

To be legal it needs a certain rating, so if your buying one, get the right one or else you may be buying another later!

A good current helmet will last ten years and protect you if crap happens. It only has to "work" once.... It isn't even about how fast you go...
Suppose you only go 14 seconds but there is a dragster in the other lane coming up your butt and 150mph? Stuff happens. Be safe and don't be a fool. I wear my helmet even when racing a rental car because you never know what will happen.2002 Street ET Champion New England Dragway

Now I just need to decide if I want full-face coverage or an open face. Any suggestions? I know absolutely zip about helmets. Clearly the full-face coverage is better for protection but is it necessary for simple drag racing?

the one time i went to the track i used my motorcycle helmet. an hjc cl-14. not too expensive at typically under $200 and they are DOT and SNELL approved. comfortable and fairly lightweight with good fitment if you have a rounder shaped head. aira and shoei are better if you have an oblong shaped head. anyway...i liked mine enough that after a year or two on my bike i picked up a 2nd one and use the first as a passenger helmet.
