    Gym equipment questions

First of all, excuse my lamer's descriptions.
Does the bar for a bench press weigh 40lbs?

There is a machine on which you can bench press safely by yourself. The one like a big structure with adjustable stops just in case you drop the bar. I have no clue what it's called. Hom much does the bar itself weigh on it?

I'm asking cause on this "safe" equipment the bar slides down on 2 poles. It kinda feels lighter while going down.

Use it to increase your chest press... but don't use it to get your real bench press numbers/max. You'll be able to lift much more on the machine.

I don't really care about the max I can lift. Just wondering how I compare to some time ago.
But since you say I'd be able to lift more on the machine than on a bench then I can't really compare these 2.

Both of those bars weigh 45 lbs.

I didn't know you were talking about a smith machine... I thought you meant one that the soccer moms used at the gym, you know the pin-selector weight and instructions how to use it

The smith machine should give you results close to the regular bench

Yeah, but he needed to know how much it weighed, so he could actually include it in the rest of the weight.

Where I go the Smith machine is 20 pounds. Even if yours is 45 it will feel lighter, because you can use the machine to make sure the bar doesnt fall forward or backward.
