    "Green Vehicle" FAIL!

    http://www.ksbw.com/r/28586219/detail.html

... the city of Salinas, was, ....surprised they flopped...???? or, at least they had to act like it to save face after giving them all that money to open up shop.....

i don't think they were going for "looks", ...

The city of Salinas had invested more than half a million dollars in Green Vehicles, an electric car start-up company.

All of that money is now gone, according to Green Vehicles President and Co-Founder Mike Ryan.
When the company still ran into financial trouble last year, the city of Salinas handed Ryan an additional $240,000. Green Vehicles also received $187,000 from the California Energy Commission.
Salinas Mayor Dennis Donohue said he was "surprised and disappointed" by the news. City officials were equally irked that Ryan notified them through an email that his company had crashed and burned.

small electric commuter cars are a great idea for densely populated areas...but as you say...they must still be attractive outwardly to the buyer in order to entice them to purchase them. when you can get a (relatively) decent looking chevy aveo, toyota prius, nissan sentra, honda civic, smart four2, etc...and then you enter the market with...that...thing...well don't be surprised if you can't pull investors together to try and pick up a share of the market. the buyers for these cars are going to fit a different set of demographics than what the designers of this thing anticipated. they went far too "futuristic concept" when they should have been thinking "mom/grandma to the grocery store and school" vehicle.

that vehicle would be beneficial if you're looking to become a sandwich between a semi-truck and a hard place...
