    Question got pulled over....

So I was driving down 85 South in Va about 8 hours ago...just staying with traffic and I fell behind so I pushed it to 84 mph ( please keep in mind it was a 65 mph zone) and I see the trooper way to late so he clock's me at 84mph after a few kind word's on both ends he give's me a ticket for "failure to follow road signs" also put the wrong year of my car he was off by a year...So does this mean I get 3 points? or the error of year of my car clear me? PLZ help...

sorry I have been gone so long ALOT of things have been going on ....all bad....

I pretty sure the year means nothing, you where in a moving violation and not a vehicle violation.

The error on the year will not get you out of it.

Failure to follow road signs sounds much more pleasing than 19 over though. Pay it and move on.

+1. I've seen many articles about this, and unfortunately it's an urban legend that minor errors like that can invalidate a ticket

So true and in my state you would have a court date. When I got nailed for triple digits and let go, I kiss the cops ass when ever I see him around.

I don't think that's a moving violation OP. Just a fine. No points.

I know when I lived in NY if there was one error, it could be anything the ticket was dropped. =0( guess the same can't be said in Va. so fine with is about $60 plus 3 points ? doh!

I know you can't link to other forums, but I don't think this one competes with this site. If there is a problem a mod can feel free to PM me.

Sounds like he cut you a break. In PA, the equivalent offense is "Obediance to Traffic Control Device" which is a no-points violation. Even though VA and NY are members of the Drivers License Compact, it is always questionable as to whether the offense will be reported back to NY. If I get a ticket in NY, I just plead to it. Never had it bite me in PA.

Pretty sure you would have to be moving to violate a traffic sign....

Well, here in NJ there is no statute for failure to observe road signs. Just failure to yield, failure to stop, following too closely, or speeding via VASCAR/pace. Those are points. Failure to observe road signs sounds too vague to me.

Which is why I believe the officer let him off pretty easy....and that he should just pay said ticket.

yeah wrong year, make or model only woks on parking tickets.

I once got a speeding ticket on my 94 firebird, the cop wrote Chevy firebird.

that didn't help me at all.
