Good thoughts going out to those in the path of tornadoes!
I'm watching a large one right now on the news in OK. Scary stuff. Keep safe!

This is so totally sad its not funny.
May 3rd 1999 they refer to in the video was the largest tornado ever recorded for planet earth. 300+ MPH winds decimated Moore, then in 03 it gets hit again.
So what's sad.
Is the fact throughout history the area of Moore gets hit numerous times.
In recent history it gets hit with the largest ever recorded etc.
Now with absolutely great coverage on this tornado, warning was probably the best ever seen, but many lost lifes because of sheer stupidity.
Poke around and you'll find the houses/buildings etc rebuilt did not use any of the newer technologies to aid in safety for such, including the school.
Same on every adult in Moore!!! The tornado didn't take your kids life, your stupidity did!!

Wow... that is a bit harsh.
I've always thought having lived in CA, and having lost my condo and many belongings in the Northridge Earthquake, that I would prefer living in areas that got warnings before natural disasters hit. I'm sure that these people took the best shelter they had available because they had those warnings. Sometimes even appropriate shelters aren't good enough.
But, this needs to be a wake up call for our government run public schools in areas prone to these type disasters.

I don't think it was a bit harsh at all.
If I continue to smoke, eat a bad diet etc, people would say I'm stupid and get whats coming to me, after just getting graft surgery.
Same rule applies to people that have gone through a disaster. Tempting a second round it completely stupid and they did nothing to better protect themselves!

...the 1999 tornado wasn't the "largest ever recorded on earth"... but it was where they obtained the highest wind speeds (as far as what's been "recorded/measured"), ...measured by a mobile doppler radar (i think it was the early DOW vehicle)... i'd be willing to bet a whole lot of tornadoes generate similar wind speeds, but the ability to have the right equipment in place at the right time to measure it is a rare occurrence (for obvious reasons)...
...as for the building construction, ...i'd imagine most above-ground structures w/ high profile walls aren't much of a match for an EF5 tornado... you'd probably need a fully enclosed concrete bunker (i.e. below ground shelter) to have any real anticipation of surviving these...
