Smile Good News for the new Camaro!!!!

Well with the new CAFE legislation passed by Congress it looked like the end for musclecars. Ha!!! I have great news about the Camaro. My younger brother works for Delphi and on Tuesday they had the production models on display for Delphi's HVAC module. Here is the good news, the Camaro will have a longer run than originally thought after the passing of the CAFE legislation. GM will be unveiling a V6 model of the Camaro while limiting the number of Z28 and SS models. The really good news is the 3.9 liter V6 will be used with HP ratings of 285 or higher. Not bad for a V6 Maro. I'm just glad the Camaro will be around longer than the new GTO. I have some pics of the production model that my bro sent me via cell phone, but I've been having problems with my Verizon homepage so, I can't post them right now, but I will try to post them later today or tomorrow (I have a dentist appointment this afternoon, so we'll see how I feel after having the drill in my mouth.)

Well the whole idea behind CAFE is the AVG fuel economy. If they build a BOATLOAD of cars that get 40+ MPG(Volt, sub compacts) then when they build the Corvette/Camaro that get around 27mpg, it will even out. HP cars aren't going anywhere.

Well unless they bored and stroked the 3.6DOHC it isn't getting a pushrod V6 of which the 3.9 is.

That is the engine that is in the production model that is at Delphi. GM has been running that engine in the Grand Prix's for a few years now. But it looks like it will come with more avg. HP than the Grand Prix's.

Wrong again. GP's us a 3.8L Buick motor or a 5.3L V8. Keep trying though.

Japolink had spy shots of the engine and they thought it would be a 3.6L DOHC "corporate" V6 as well.

Sorry, but you're wrong mr.gto. This is insider info from Delphi who at this moment has the FINAL production model at their factory. It is the 3.9L engine in the V6 version of the Camaro. Unfortunately the article you pointed to says "ASSUMING this is the 3.6L engine." Assumptions are not facts. This is a fact! I'm not trying to be argumentative, but this information that I am sharing is fact. GM hasn't even released a statement saying that a V6 model WILL be produced, so as far as I am concerned this could all be another manufacturer ploy to increase excitement about the new Camaro.

The 3.9 liter engine was originally an Oldsmobile engine, but has not been used since. You are correct about the Grand Prix it does come with the 3.8L engine.

Until I see an article with definative proof that it will be the 3.6L engine in the V6 Camaro I am going to stand by what my brother saw in the engine compartment of the final production model. If you have one please prove me wrong. I'm not afraid to admit if I was wrong, but I need definative proof. Maybe R&T, Motor Trend etc... will have a more detailed article about the final Camaro Specs soon since it will be released relatively soon. Thanks for posting the article though. It is always cool to read up on our favorite cars.

Can any one make out what the extra gauges are. It looks like there is a fuel gauge and temp gauge with the speedo and tach. And in the console there is volts and oil but I can't tell what the other 2 are.

i've been out of the loop for a while so i figure this would be a good thread to ask. when is the 5th gen going to be released for sale? i just got a pretty good reup bonus and i might want to use some for a down payment. anyways, a V6 5th gen was expected in my opinion since it'll be more affordable for those who just want the car and not so much the performance. although you can squeeze some seriuos power out of a 6 cyl. any one who has seen a pro Buick Grand National tear it up at the strip could agree.

That interior is hideous. So far, the Challenger & Camaro have been ruined by shitty interior.

I didn't think the interior was that bad for the challenger, looks a lot like a charger's, just a little different.

Yea, same crapola Chrysler puts in their other cars. I'm in the car more than out of it.

I'll take the interior out of a charger or challenger over my car or a 79-93 mustang too. We have our personal preferences.

When did this become about comparing the interior to current f-bods or 93 mustangs?
