Wal-Mart mobilizes against Democrats:
Reuters) - Wal-Mart Stores Inc is mobilizing U.S. store managers to lobby against Democrats in November's presidential election, fearing they will make it easier for workers to unionize, The Wall Street Journal reported on Friday.
In recent weeks, thousands of Wal-Mart managers and department heads have been summoned to mandatory meetings at which the retailer stresses the downside for workers if store workers unionize, the paper said.
About a dozen employees who attended meetings in seven states said executives stressed employees would have to pay hefty union dues and get nothing in return, and might have to go on strike without compensation, and warned that unionization could force the company to cut jobs as labor costs rise, the Journal reported.
The Wal-Mart human-resources managers who have run the meetings didn't tell those attending how to vote in the November elections, but made it clear that voting for the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, Sen. Barack Obama, would be tantamount to inviting unions in, the Journals said.
Wal-Mart could not be reached immediately for a comment.

I agree and i don't think any employer should have the right to try to sway how their employees vote but it should still be in the political section.

I do feel that unions use/abuse while exploiting there members and increasing the cost of work that should be considered cheap. Unions where a good system to have before government labor laws existed. Now we have labor laws to protect people, its time to ditch the unions.
never understood how a highschool drop out without a GED can take 3 weeks of training to be a flag holder for a highways construction site with a starting pay of $25 an hour. way over paid, and the cost gets past down in taxes.
Cars would be cheaper if unions didnt not exist, state taxes would be cheaper if road crews where paid less. if your choose to push a button on a break press all day and do nothing else (something a monkey could do) you should not make more then $10 an hour. Just like the flag holder.
I have had friends in the union and they hated it, spoke of many terrible stories.
With all of that being said, i can see where walmart is pushing against the democrats and resisting union setup. Walmart knows that by having an established union of workers they would have to pay their employees more, which in turn increases the cost of their product.
however walmart is on a fine line on how much they can push to swing their employees vote. educate them but dont force them.

I avoid Wal-Mart.
Unless I need oil. Then I go in and pick up as many containers as I can so I don't have to go back for a while.

I think the vote thing is actuaslly the worse part of this story but realistically tell me any corporation that's not anti-union? The unions are there for the employee benefit not employer. I think unions can be a good thing but I think a 16 year old working at a grocery store or walmart for that matter does not need to be unionised.

those flag men you seen are laborers and went threw 3 years worth of apprentice ship.
granted its an easy gig holding a flag, but when not holding the flag, laborers have back breaking work.
btw, schooling doesnt make for a good boss, ive seen plenty of highly schooled managers who are not worth a shit.
schooling doesnt = the big bucks it used to
power = who you know
