Fresh water fishtank guys I need advice
Somebody just gave me a Oscar that is about 8- 10 inches long I have him in a 20 gallon for now, But I'm going to get a bigger tank soon, what size tank would you recommend for this fish, and what would be some good tank mates for him?

I personnaly wouldn't have an Oscar that big. I'd trade him in for a bunch of small African Chiclids.

You need to figure out what type of tank you want. A large fish will make for a boring tank as they don't roam around a ton. I would say go with no more then a 50 and add some fish into it and let it rock. THe oscar should be pretty good size stil.

75 gallon and give him feeder goldfish to eat....you can get other oscars, but they may fight.....if you do make sure they are comparable in size.

I've got a 4 inch oscar in a 29 gallon.
he is comfortable, but for a fish that big, go for at least a 50 gallon. he won't be happy in a 20 gallon.

50 is good cause the footprint is smaller than a 75, If you go higher than 50 just jump to a 100 gal. IMO.

i own my own fish company and my advice to you is that if you keep the fish get a 75 or larger its only a few extra bucks and you wont have to buy a bigger one later. but i do say go with some African Chiclids

Here I am...
putting him in anything less than a 55 is cruel and even that's not so nice. Not to say it isn't done, but it's not nice. It's like keeping a Betta in a brandy snifter or something of that size. It can be done, but it's certainly not the right way to do it.
You'd be safe at 55 though, better at 75 or 90.

Oh yeah, I also +1 for the jumping to some ciclids or something like that.

The DOWNSIDE...
Oscars are messy. Very messy. Expect to clean up fish shit on a regular basis.
The UPSIDE...
They are extremely smart. Like dogs in water. As soon as you get home they will swin to the corner of the tank to greet you.
