It's a chevy sponsored video... obviously but I would have to think that is how it would react.

I can see this becoming a boomerang when GM expands aluminum use in their own next generation trucks.

    They're not going to.

There was an article recently in the WSJ I believe about how GM has patented a method for "welding" steel and aluminum to each other. Interesting that I read that article, then this ad pops up. Doesn't take a genius to see where they are going with it.

This now leads me to question just how "tuff" the 6th Gen Camaro is. Isn't an aluminum frame and the body panels are also aluminum as well?

Corvette has had an aluminum frame (that runs down the center of the car) for years. Trust me, it's plenty rigid.

Don't think anyone's going to (purposely) be dropping a pallet of pavers on it either.

Aluminum for outer body panels is one thing, even on a pickup...fenders, doors, hood...etc. But the bed needs to be durable, and aluminum is just not the right choice.

My 12 year old GM truck has zero rust. Must suck to live in the rust belt (that statement has nothing to do with rust either)

When I travel in the Northeast I am always amazed at the rust on vehicles that are still ably cruising the roads.

GM and Ford work trucks that are a few years old will usually have some rust showing, but Dodges of the same vintage will have holes big enough to stick a Big Mac through.

The cars and personal use trucks are not nearly as rusty.

Mine is 10 hears old and just started showing rocker and cab corner rust but it's on borrowed time now. Up here it's not if those will rust out but when. If I decide to keep this truck longer I'll have those fixed but they're expensive to have fixed..

My rockers are rusted through. That is the only part of my Silverado's body that is rusted. No wheel well rust, no tailgate rust, no bumper rust.

A Corvettes frame is plenty rigid but I wouldnt put an additional 7,500 lbs or so load on it either.

Dont most truck owners just put a bedliner in anyways? Most of the damage would have been nullified by a bedliner.

A plastic Bedliner would stop it for sure. A spray on liner would also probably stop it, but they aren't as tough as plastic liners. That said, it's still somewhat of an oversight on fords part.

Most do but not all. Now you're telling your customers well if you to drop bricks into your bed you will have to pay for a bedliner. There is a reason Ford still uses steel on their real work trucks like the F250 on up.

    Pffffttttttt!!!

Everyone knows the Honda Ridgeline is the toughest

Of course if it were 0 degrees outside the stones would probably go right through and end up on the ground...
