everyone bitches about gas prices and still drives 80MPH

when i go long distances I put cruise control on 55 and get 30MPG or so. I go 75 and it only get 23MPG. If I fill up tank (16 gallons) and go 300 miles, that means if I go 55, I'll still have 6 gallons left . if I go 75, i'll have only 3 gallons. that saves $10 right there. i don't understand how all these SUV's just blow by me on the highway one after the other, and then they cry at the pump when it cost them $60 to fill up.

I was thinking that the other day watching some idiot in a SUV floor it off the line and then slam on the brakes at the next stop light. And I see people driving like that all the time in town. If you drive like that all the time then you don't get to bitch about gas prices.

I wouldn't say you get better gas mileage going 55...the gas you're saving from driving slow is used up by being on the road so f'in long. I'd rather drive 75-80 and get there faster and shut the car off...plus most highways here are 65.

What....it makes perfect sense. Yea you're spinning the motor less and saving a little gas going 55-60mph but you're driving longer because you're moving slower. Driving 80mph your motor is spinning 6-700 rpms more but you're covering a lot more ground in a certain time frame therefore getting to your destination faster...and most people turn the car off when they get there

So say we left at the same time and were going to the track 100 miles away. I'd drive 80 all the way there and you'd drive 60...it would take you a hour and 40 minutes to get there while it only would take me like a hour and 20 minutes(not accurate but close). So i'd be waiting for you at the track for 20 minutes with the car off and not using any gas at all......it just seems to me that would make up for spinning the motor a little faster.

Since noones agreeing with me i'm thinking i'm crazy
